Since February 2003 CityPoems has been using text messages to write the biography of the city of Leeds in England. STADSchromosomen does the same in Antwerp, Belgium. Together, CityPoems and STADSchromosomen let you use your mobile phone to be in two cities at once. CityPoems is a network of PoemPoints around Leeds, each offering up to ten free text message poems written by people who live and work in the city. The poems available to read at each PoemPoint are about the character of the place they are in. We’ve also 'twinned' some of the Leeds PoemPoint locations with matching places in Antwerp, so for example the West Yorkshire Playhouse is matched with Het Toneelhuis. To read a poem about Leeds, or one in English about Antwerp, simply text the unique key number displayed on each PoemPoint sign to the CityPoems number *removed*, or try the virtual tour by texting the key numbers from the map below. STADSchromosomen allows people of Antwerp to use their mobile phones in the same way to read about Leeds. To read another poem just send the key number again. CityPoems invites you to submit your own poems at any time by sending them as text messages to *removed*. Each poem must fit within a single text message (maximum 160 characters).
